Greetings! I hope this finds you all doing well! Today Spirit would like for me to share with you a couple of things regarding our thoughts, specifically random and/or unwanted thoughts.
Random thoughts. We all have them. They seem to come from nowhere and most of us simply allow them to exist without question, even though many are unwanted or unsolicited. Spirit would like for us to discuss two specific types of random thoughts today – those about certain people and those about past events.
First, let’s address thoughts about people. Have you ever thought about someone you haven’t seen for a long time, only to have them call shortly thereafter, or run into them in the store? This happened to me recently, when the image of a former acquaintance popped into my mind. I didn’t really consciously acknowledge it, I just thought it strange and pushed it aside, mostly because I really didn’t want to think about this person. Three days later I received a text from them.
Similarly, thoughts of a long-time close friend have been coming to me the past few days. Due to conflicting schedules, we only speak every month or so, so I welcome thoughts of her. Through an “accidental misdial” we actually had a conversation, in which I learned that she was battling a nasty stomach virus and that a relative had just passed away that day.
In these two real-life examples, one was a welcome thought and one was not, but both were random. So, I began to ask Spirit why? Why do we have random, unprovoked thoughts about people? The answer I received was simple, yet enlightening. Spirit showed me that these thoughts are usually for one of two reasons — they are either a premonition of something coming our way, or they are there letting us know that the person is in need of our intervening thoughts and prayers.
So, what are we to now do with this information? The first thing that we are to do is simply acknowledge and briefly examine the thought. Is it welcome or unwelcome? Is it pleasant or distressing? In my first example, the thought was definitely unwelcome. Spirit showed me that this was a premonition of something to come and the thought itself was my preparation for the text. It was my opportunity to visualize closing a door on this person and stating that they are not welcome in my life, thus preventing contact by them. As for my second example, it became obvious to me after I spoke to her that she was in need of healing prayers for her situation. The thought was my opportunity to stop what I was doing, ask Spirit if she needed anything, then proceed accordingly, sending light and love to her. This was a valuable lesson to me and one which I will not soon forget.
Now, Spirit would like for us to address another type of random thought. These are those sneaky thoughts that pop up regarding memories from past events. These memories are usually surrounding unpleasant events or lapses in our past good judgment, but they can pertain to other situations as well.
I get them quite frequently lately, just little glimpses of a memory… a flash from my past resurfaces for no apparent reason, as it has absolutely nothing to do with my current life. If I’m being truthful, this was mildly troubling at first because most of these memories are things that I’d really prefer not to remember.
Spirit showed me, however, that when these unpleasant memories surface it is, again, for one of two reasons. Either there is a lesson there that we didn’t completely learn the first time and we need to reexamine the situation, asking Spirit to clarify for us what the memory is still trying to teach us, or, it is simply a memory that is ready to be released. Yes, released!
You see, unless we are continuing to make the same mistakes over and over, (which is an entirely different topic!), it is time to release the memories associated with it. Some memories, even though they are painful, we still cling to them because they are familiar. Spirit, however, does not want us bogged down with guilt, shame, or just general unpleasant thoughts, nor are we to dwell on past mistakes, as this practice steals from our present possibilities.
In most cases, releasing memories is really quite simple. When these thoughts come up, ask Spirit if there is something surrounding the memory that you need to learn from, or if it is time to release the memory. Sometimes there may be lingering issues that need to be cleared up, but chances are, it is simply time for it to be released from your retained memories. This is very exciting news, indeed!
We are not necessarily responsible for the thoughts that come to us, but we are responsible for how we react to them. Spirit does not want us to become a victim of our thoughts, but would like for us to acknowledge these thoughts, then address them accordingly, thanking them for the messages they bring and/or sending them on their way. Spirit would remind us that we are to become more aware of our random thoughts, as they are not so random after all.
Namaste,
