It’s hard not to be moved by the beauty of wild horses galloping across a western plain, hooves pounding and manes flying.
An emblem of the American West and once numbering in the millions, the wild horse is considered by some today as a resource to be exploited or a pest to be eliminated. Now the wild horse is on the verge of being removed entirely from our nation’s public lands. Helping now is more important than ever! The federal government is decimating the free-roaming herds in unprecedented numbers. Many round-ups have taken place this year alone. They round up the wild horses by helicopter into traps, traumatizing, breaking up families and lost foals. Many thousands are warehoused that are not adopted in long-term holding facilities. Many are sold at slaughter auctions. We strongly support a stand-alone bill, the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act, which has amassed 224 bipartisan cosponsors in the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, there’s been little movement toward a vote. The Wild Horses need our help…
